Bartolo Colon used to be one of the game’s most dominant starting pitchers with the Los Angeles Angels and also signed one of the most lucrative deals but due to injuries, fatigue and just plain bad luck, all that was lost.
Over the winter break the Boston Red Sox signed Bartolo Colon to a minor-league deal, which I believe is the league minimum of $500,000? Colon started the year in the minor-leagues and was called up a few weeks ago and to say the least he has been very good. He has a 2.25 ERA with twelve innings pitched, eight strikeouts and two wins in two starts. He is an experienced veteran and a great addition to an already fantastic starting rotation. With Curt Schilling out of the line-up, Bartolo Colon would be a great piece to the missing puzzle at the back end of the rotation. The back end has been the problem with the Red Sox because they are calling up and optioning players like Justin Masterson or Eric Hull more times than you can count.
If Bartolo Colon can prove this season that he can pitch and pitch well then maybe he can return back to that status he once had with the Los Angeles of Anaheim Angels and the Cleveland Indians where he won twenty-one games and was consistent in winning games.
Who knows maybe he can win at least twelve games this season and next season get a bigger contract of two-years and ten million dollars. I personally would like to see that as well.
