First entry - No no-no for Lackey

What can I say - the day after John Lackey comes two outs away from throwing a no hitter is the day I write my  first entry.  I can honestly say I have mixed feelings about last night.  Although the Red Sox have thrown four no-hitters in my lifetime, I have yet to watch one of them.  Now I'm finally watching a Red Sox game, beginning to end, and there's a no hitter going. Except there's a problem.

The Red Sox are being no hit.

After I missed John Lester's no hitter, I was furious.  I couldn't believe that there had been ANOTHER no hitter thrown by a Red Sox pitcher and I missed it.  But then I thought of one of my favorite lines from the movie "Field of Dreams."  Shoeless Joe is talking to main character Ray Kinsella.  Ray is outraged that they have invited author Terrance Man to the cornstalks to see "where all the maic lies."  Ray starts flilpping out.  "I was the one who made this baseball field, I should be the one to go!"  And then Shoeless Joe says that line:

"Is that why you did this, Ray? For you?"

After I missed John Lester's no hitter, I thought of that line.  It was then that I realized that Lester deserved the no-hitter.  He worked that hard to get it, so he deserves it.  Instead of feeling sorry for myself, I should be happy for Lester.

That's what was going through my mind last night.  It wasn't looking too good for the Red Sox in the 9th inning, down 6-0.  I thought that Lackey deserved a no-hitter.   And I was going to be happy for him if he got it.   Well you saw how it ended - Dustin Pedroia broke it up with two outs to go, and then Kevin Youkilis made everyone forget that there even was a no-hitter.

So much for a good conscience, huh?
