This time, we're the ones sweeping

I figured I’d turn on Sunday night baseball to see who was playing, and I was very excited to see that the Phillies were playing the Cardinals.  I enjoy watching the Phils play.  I’ve been to many Phillies games, and although I can’t call myself a real Phillies fan because I don’t follow them enough, I’d rank the Phillies second among my favorite baseball teams.

So even though Tek struck out to start off the “post rain delay” portion of the game, the sox were able to drive in an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.  And who else to score but Jason Bay?  I mentioned in my “postgame notes” section of my last post that I am aware that Bay is not going to stay hot through the rest of the season, but that he does seem to be doing well in his transition into the American League thus far.

Okajima did allow two runners (1 H, BB) but didn’t allow either to cross the plate.  When Delcarmen came in, he only allowed a walk.  And Pap came in to close it (1-2-3).  Great bullpen work, boys.

Alright! Utley just hit another home run for the Phils, cutting the Cardinal’s lead in half (2-1) Keep it going Phillies!

Well now we’re off to Kansas City.  This really shouldn’t be too much trouble for us.  We should be able to take this series 2-1 easily.  We’ll see.

Keep the faith.

Post game notes:

-The Boston Bullpen: We got exactly what we needed from the pen during the series.  Check out these stats from the series and tell me that our bullpen still needs help: (10.2 combined innings, R, 4 H, 2 BB, 9 K).  Okay well maybe we will need more help down the road.  But this series had to be a huge confidence builder for the pen.

-Buccholz:  Clay gets the ball tomorrow night.  Let’s hope he does better than his last start: (6.1 IP, 6 R, 5 ER, 6 H, 3 BB, 5 K).  If Buccholz wants to stay in the rotation, he really needs a good start to build his confidence back up.
