Dice-K dominates, but Wakefield goes to the DL...

Below is the original blog I wrote about last night's game.  Upon finishing the blog, I learned some disturbing news about Tim Wakefield.  I thought I'd share that first:

“Tim Wakefield has been scratched from his scheduled start on Tuesday with tightness in the back of his shoulder, the same injury that kept him off the World Series roster. Wakefield has already been sent back to Boston, where he'll be examined by Dr. Thomas Gill.

Wakefield will be placed on the disabled list. His replacement as the starter for Tuesday has not yet been announced.” – Amalie Benjamin, Boston Globe

I'm not doing any post game notes for this post because the news about Wakefield has caught all my attention.   Keep the faith guys, this next week might be a rough one.  Here's my post about last night:

I was not fortunate enough to watch last night’s game, but I was quite pleased when I called my dad and heard the Sox were winning 6-1 in the eighth.  I figured this was one of those games where the Sox had it right from the start. When I watched the condensed game on MLB TV this morning, I found out this was not the case at all.

What a job well done by DJ Carrasco, coming in on short notice and pitching 4.1 innings.  Take a look at his numbers from last night: [3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, K]  Although I’m impressed, I’m sure that Ozzie Guillen yelled at him for giving up a run and then proceeded to shout for the rest of the ball game.  Guillen has to be one of the biggest idiots in baseball.  I usually don’t boo players or coaches unless I think that he really deserves it, but I can honestly say that I cannot wait until the White Sox come to Boston so I can boo him every time he comes on the field.  (Ken Griffey, Jr., on the other hand, I cannot wait to give a standing ovation to.)

Since I was watching the condensed game, I had to listen to the Chicago broadcasters.  It was pretty obvious that they were not happy with all the double plays (4) that their beloved Sox were hitting into.  As Swisher was hitting into his third of the night (wow, did he really hit into three?!), the broadcaster said, “here we go again!”  Saturday could not have been a fun night to be a White Sox fan.

So how about that Dice-K?  Not only was that a fantastic outing, but he didn’t even find himself in all that many jams.  Granted, there were a couple here and there, and the four double plays helped him out, but his walk total was considerately low (3 BB in 8 IP).  Dice-K only gave up 4 hits and a run, while striking out 4 as well.  He improves his record to 13-2.

Jason Bay has started to cool down, but we all knew this was coming so it’s nothing to worry about.  This isn’t going to turn into a Varitek or Lowell type slump.  He’ll heat up again.

And speaking of heating up, how about that Jacoby Ellsbury?  He went 3-4 with two runs, an RBI, and a solo homer?  Jeez Ellsbury, we all wanted you to heat up, but you really went all out with the home runs! Looks like someone’s ready to hit lead off again (hint hint).  I honestly thought we’d see him back in the lead off spot on Friday, but Francona elected to go with Coco, as he had good numbers against Buhrle.  I can’t say for sure if he’ll be there today, but definitely expect to see him batting lead off again soon.
