"You kiddin me?!"

That was my first reaction when I got a score update from rehearsal.  I was sitting down in the theatre when fellow Red Sox fan, Stu, came down to tell me that the Red Sox scored 10 runs in the first.  I waited for him to start laughing and then say “no just kidding, here’s the real score.”  But he didn’t.  Ten runs in the first?! I hurried home to turn the game on, and sure enough, it’s 12-2 Boston in the bottom of the 4th.  “Wow this is awesome!” I thought.  “This game is in the books already!”  Leaving the game on, I went on the internet for a little bit, turning my head to see what was going on.  When the 5th inning came around, I didn’t really realize what was going on.  “Okay, so the Rangers are getting a few runs…oh wow, they’re starting to come back….wait, are they actually back in this game?!” Soon enough, Texas had the lead.  I couldn’t believe it.  I turned the computer off and sat in front of the TV.

I honestly couldn’t believe that even the Red Sox bullpen could blow a game like this.  I personally would have liked to see Justin Masterson come in earlier in the game.  He warmed up a few times, but he wasn’t brought in.  Fortunately for the Sox, Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis came through in the 8th – and what an eighth inning it was.  After Youkilis hit a three-run shot over the montster, Don Orsillo sounded more excited than ever before.  “You kiddin me?!” he shouted.  It was awesome.  Since I missed the beginning of the game, I wasn’t as into it as I could have been.  But that call by Orsillo really made me feel like I had been watching the whole time.  “You kiddin me?!”

Keep the faith!

Post game notes:

-Charlie Zink:  Well it wasn’t the best debut for Zink, but Francona never would have let him stay in as long as he did if it weren’t for the huge lead he had (4.1 IP, 11 H, 8 R, 1 BB, 1 K).  Although he didn’t have a great performance, it was awesome to see the Fenway Faithful give him a standing-O as he left the mound in the 5th.

-Boston bullpen:  I dunno what happened last night, but they sure didn’t look like the pen that went so many innings without giving up a run.  In just two innings of work, Delcarmen, Lopez, and Aardsma gave up 8 hits, 8 runs (7 earned), 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts.  Let’s just hope this doesn’t happen again.

-Mike Lowell:  In the bottom of the 7th, Lowell appeared to be in some pain after fouling off a pitch.  In the 8th, he was replaced defensively by Youk, while Casey took over at first.  Now they’re saying that Lowell has a strained right oblique muscle and could be heading back to the DL.  This has to be very frustrating for Lowell, who’s already fighting off another injury.  I’m not too worried though.  If Lowell does go to the DL, I’m very comfortable with Casey taking over at first, with Youk at third.
