Supporting the Team

I realize we’re playing the Batimore Orioles here, but you still gotta give these guys credit.  During a time like this where we are scared to look at our pitching rotation because of injuries, our offense has sure helped us out.

For starters, Jason Varitek is showing us that he’s still the Captain we all know and love.  Of course we love these guys no matter what.  But there’s nothing that makes us happier knowing that our boys are happy and playing well.  Although he’s only gotten a total of three hits this series, they have all been for extra bases (two of them homers).

Then we have Kevin Youkilis, who not only has been red hot, but has given the Red Sox another good reason to get rid of our former cleanup man.  He made up for his 0-4 night on Monday with a 3-5 night yesterday.  Youk scored a run while driving in three, two of which scored on a two-run shot in the 5th.

And how about that Jacoby Ellsbury who was quiet as a mouse during the first half of the season?  Maybe he’s not the hitter we saw last October, but he got a pair of hits last night, scoring two runs.  In addition to that, he stole two bases, which brings his total up to 40 for the season.  Wow that’s a lot of stolen bases.

This is all great stuff we’ve been seeing.  But let’s remember, we’re still in a playoff race.  Varitek may very well start to slump again later in the season.  Jacoby might quiet down again as he did earlier.  I know, I know…I’m being a pessimist again.  But so what if that does happen?  We’re still Red Sox Nation and we’re going to support these guys no matter what.

Now with that being said, we need to support the guy who’s on the mound tonight.  Buchholz needs our support now more than ever, and even though it’s a road game, we have Red Sox Nation right there in Baltimore.  If anyone happens to read this and is going to the game tonight, PLEASE give Buchholz the support he needs!  Hold up a sign, cheer him on when he’s on the mound, do whatever it takes!  Just show that even though he hasn’t won a game since May, he’s a Red Sox player and we support him.

Thanks all, and remember, KEEP THE FAITH!

 Postgame notes:

-Carl Yastermski:  I doubt that any of you didn’t hear about the surgery that Yaz had yesterday, but thank god the man is okay.  They’re saying his surgery was a success, which is exactly what we asked for.  The guy is only 69, so he’s still got plenty of years left in him.  Hope you’re doing well, Yaz!
