Obviously this is not the way you should play baseball, but I thought of this during the 9th inning this afternoon. These fans are watching their beloved Yanks play the Sox for the last time in Yankee Stadium. Wouldn’t it be special if the Yanks won it in the 9th, just for the fans? We still would take 2 out of 3 for the series, and the Yanks still might not make the playoffs.
As soon as I thought of that, I started paying attention to the game, and immediately changed my mind. Then, of course, Giambi hit a walk-off single. Not as good as I had imagined it to be.
Well we had a good series and I have to say I’m very happy with how we played. But what I really wanna talk about is Tuesday night. I got an email from Red Sox Nation saying to go to the new Bleacher Bar to watch the game. They said that Red Sox Nation governor Jared Carrabis would be there and it would be a great chance to watch the game and ask him any questions. I thought this sounded fun, so a buddy of mine and I took the train to Boston and arrived at the bar right in time for the game. Unfortunately, before we went in, there was a guy checking IDs (Did I mention I’m not 21 yet?)
I soon got the bad news that the Bleacher Bar is 21 plus after 6:30. I told him about the email, and he apologized, saying that we wouldn’t be able to go in. So I was really bummed, and I told my friend we could find somewhere else to watch the game. We started to walk away when the man called us back saying we could go in, but that we couldn’t try to order any alcohol. I was very grateful to this man, and I can honestly say that alcohol was the last thing on our minds as we entered the bar underneath Fenway Park.
Soon after we sat down, Jared came over and introduced himself to us. I found it ironic that Jared is only a year younger than me, and yet Red Sox Nation set up a thing for him at this bar. Regardless, I was glad to meet him. A camera for the Red Sox Report was following him around, so I’ll have to check and see if it made the airing or not. But either way it was nice to meet Jared.
I also noticed that the Vice President of Red Sox Nation, Regular Rob Crawford, was also enjoying the game from the Bleacher Bar. As he passed our table later on in the evening, I said hi to him and learned that there were two very nice people as part of the Red Sox Nation “higher ups.” Towards the 9th inning, me and my buddy talked to him again. When I asked him his favorite player, he told us that he liked Sean Casey, Coco Crisp, and Jed Lowrie, but didn’t really have a favorite. I thought that was awesome that he didn’t just go with the big stars and say Ortiz or Pedroia. Guess that’s why he’s called “Regular” Rob. He ended up watching the last inning with us. Great guy.
I also have to say that the Bleacher Bar is a great place to watch a game. When the Sox aren’t home, you have a great view of the field. During game times you have the same view, but they close what looks like a garage door in front of the field area. When the Sox are away, you can walk right up to the fence that stops you from going on the field, and you’re right there on the field level looking at beautiful Fenway Park from a view that most have never seen it before. It was even more beautiful to see as the sun went down. Great idea to who ever came up with the Bleacher Bar.
Keep the Faith guys.
Post game notes:
Yankee fans: I caught you guys some slack in this blog. There are some great Yankee fans out there and there are a few of you whom I can call my friend. But to those of you who booed Papelbon and chanted "OVERATED" in the All Star game - I hope you were at the first two games of the series.
