Does anyone remember that commercial where two teams are playing a game in the pouring rain? As it continues, a player goes over to a pay phone, says something (that I can’t remember) and then decides he’s going to play all out? The song “take me out to the ball game” comes on, with electric guitars and all that jazz (I guess it’s not really jazz…you get the picture) and the show the player sliding into the mud and having a blast. As the song concludes, you hear an announcer saying “What a game!”
Tonight, as the Red Sox blanked the White Sox 8-0, those words are currently ringing in my head. Not only was it a big (and important) win for the Sox, but it was so much fun to watch. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the luxury to just sit back and watch the entire game. I’m currently moving out of my apartment and decided to save packing for the last minute. But I have to say, this game almost made packing fun. Here’s why I thought this game was so good:
-Defense: The defense was amazing – on both ends. Okay, so AJ Pierzynsky wasn’t on his a game, but the outfield was pretty great. How about that catch by Dye against Lowrie? Dye robbed him of a home run. As upset as I was that Lowrie didn’t get the homer, I was in awe that Dye had pulled off that catch….oh, and don’t forget about Ellsbury! He got the Fenway Faithful into the game right away with that great catch to start the ball game. Great job on both ends!
-Pedroia: Do I even need to go into details? Okay I will anyway – 4-4, with 3 runs and a stole base – and don’t forget that diving stop he made in the 9th! I’m going to be very upset if he doesn’t win a gold glove this year.
Tonight was an all around great game to watch. Let’s hope to see more over the weekend.
“What a game!”
Keep the Faith.
Post game notes:
-Daisuke Matsuzaka: Dice-K absolutely dominated the White Sox offense tonight: 8 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K. Can’t ask for anything more than that. It has to be one of the best outings of his career. Incredible job tonight by Dice-K.
-Michael Bowden: Bowden will be making his Major League debut tomorrow evening, as he will take the mound for the Boston Red Sox. This should be very fun to see, but I’d be surprised if the Sox keep him up after this start.
