Last night no good for Sox

I’m not gonna lie, I was very disappointed last night.  WHERE WAS HEIDI?!

Okay down to business.  Obviously last night was a great game.  Although it wasn’t so great that Byrd gave up three homers, they all came with no one on base.  In addition, the offense did what it’s been doing best as if to say “Hey Byrd – don’t worry about it! We’ll take care of this.”  With that kind of attitude from the bats as well as Byrd’s criticism (towards himself), our ballclub has a playoff attitude and I couldn’t be more proud.

Another thing on Byrd – I give all the credit in the world to the Sox front office for getting this guy.  No, he’s not lights out, but we were in desperate need of a decent pitcher to fill the 5 spot in the rotation.  Paul Byrd has done just that.  As mentioned before, he also is hard on himself.  One might say that he’s being too rough, but I think he’s being a big leaguer.  Good for you Byrd.  We know you’re out there giving it all you got.  RSN supports you.

Moving onto the offense:  If someone told me before the game last night that the Sox would hit back-to-back homers, I never would have guessed them to be Tek and Bailey.  I think everyone who’s a Sox fan breathes a little better after watching Varitek get a big hit.  And when call-ups like Bailey are hitting homers, it makes you feel a lot more comfortable considering Lowell and Drew are out of the lineup.

Well today marks my last day of summer vacation, seeing as classes start up again tomorrow.  Red Sox – do me a favor and end summer on a high note? Please?

Regardless of what happens tonight, you’ve provided a very entertaining summer for me Red Sox.  Heck, I was even fortunate enough to be shown (briefly) on the last episode of the Red Sox report.  Now that’s a good summer.  Even if you don’t win tonight, Red Sox, I will always Keep the Faith!

Post game notes:

-Stranded runners: Although the Sox played well last night, they managed to strand 20 runners on base.  The Captain was left on base 6 of those 20 times.  Let’s try not to repeat that tonight.

-Mike Lowell:  Lowell says he might be able to play next weekend against Texas, according to redsox.com.  This would be great, but all things considered I wouldn’t expect to see him play for another week after that.

-Heidi Watney: Hopefully she’ll be back tonight!

Fielding errors:

-Hopefully this is a section I won't have to use again.  But a friendly Sox fan on sawxheads.com pointed out that Varitek was never left on base at all.  I misread some of the stats on redsox.com and realized the Red Sox only stranded 12 men, not 20.  This makes much more sense.  Sorry for the confusion.
