And when you think it’s all over….it’s not over

To all you fans that left early…wow.  Normally I’d say, “Well, that’s what happens when you leave a Sox game early.”  But at the same time, that was such a great game, I feel bad for you.

But that’s what happens when you leave a Sox game early.

Although it’s been a few days, I can honestly say I have not felt this kind of excitement since 2004.  When I watched Big Papi hit the walkoff in Game 4, I was watching it in my living room at home, by myself.  It was 1:00 AM, and I had to go to school in the morning.  Now I’m a college student, watching David Ortiz hit a homer to put the Sox back into it with a bunch of friends on a Friday night.  I gotta tell you, they’re two different situations, but it’s exciting nonetheless.

Before all that excitement, however, I could not have been more unhappy.  Thinking that your season is about to be over is one thing.  When you’re getting blown out for the third straight game, it’s another.  All we could do was just sit there, slumped in our seats, and watch.  Of course, there was another option of turning off the TV.  I never consider that option.  Even if the Red Sox are about to be eliminated, we’re supposed to be there for them.

When I was watching Game 4 from Fenway, I kept thinking how even if we did leave, we’d be abandoning the Sox.  If anything, we need to be there for them.  And I wanted so badly to be there for them for Game 5.  Unfortunately, I had emptied a large chunk out of my wallet to go to the previous game, so that wasn’t really an option (This really hurt, because tickets on the secondary market were half price from what I paid).  So instead I watched it with friends.

And what a great way to watch it.  Papi finally came through, putting Fenway back on their feet.  JD Drew got two big hits, including the one that everyone’s talking about – the game winning hit.  On WEEI’s “The Big Show” yesterday they were teasing announcer Joe Casiglione because of how high his voice went as he announced the winning hit.  I personally can’t get more excited when I hear it.

“And the Red Sox win 8-7!...Can you believe it?!”

Believe it.  Keep believing! Tonight is a brand new ballgame, and we still have a lot of work today.  But I can’t wait for tonight.

Keep the Faith!
