Tonight’s line up:
1) Coco Crisp CF
2) Dustin Pedroia 2B
3) David Ortiz DH
4) Kevin Youkilis 1B
5) JD Drew RF
6) Jason Bay LF
7) Mark Kotsay 1B
8) Jed Lowrie SS
9) Jason Varitek C
As much as I like having Bay hit in the 5 spot, sliding him down to the 6th and having Drew hit 5th really switches it up so that it goes righty-lefty all the way down (including switch hitters). Although it might not seem like much, it forces Maddon to think about whether or not it’s worth it to bring in more than one left handed pitcher just to pitch to one batter. I like it. Good job Tito.
The reason I want to post this line up is because these nine men have a huge responsibility on their shoulders tonight. Boston’s pitching has been less than productive. It’s up to these 9 men to get some offense going early enough in the game so that we’re not forced to get 15 runs with only 6 ours left…okay that’s an exaggeration. And okay, it’s so much more exciting when we do make a big come back late in the game. But striking early in ball games helps win ball games.
Let’s go out there and win a ball game.
Keep the Faith!
