Tim Wakefield – I owe you an apology. I was very concerned when I heard you were returning to the Red Sox rotation. You are the nicest guy in baseball, no doubts there. But I doubted you during the off season. Boy do you know how to prove others wrong.
Has anyone ever listened to the music that Wakefield pitches to as he takes the mound at Fenway before the first? It’s a song by Tim McGraw called “How Bad Do You Want It? I recently bought it off itunes and personally love the song. Man does it get you motivated. This is a perfect song for Wakefield. Even though I have yet to be at Fenway to hear the song this season, it’s evident that Wakefield is hearing it loud and clear in cities like Oakland and Cleveland.
For those of you who missed the game, Wakefield pitched 7 innings, allowing 4 walks, 5 strikeouts, and just 1 hit given up to Victor Martinez in the first inning. This is how I know how bad Wakefield wants it.
Unfortunately for the Sox, they were also facing good pitching. Just as impressive for Cleveland was Cliff Lee, who pitched 8 scoreless innings, allowing 5 hits and 5 strikeouts. He did not allow a walk. However, hard throwing Kerry Wood came into the game and was not able to throw and of his 98 mph fastballs past Jason Bay, who provided the Red Sox with all the offense they needed. His three run blast in the 9th got Red Sox Nation screaming both on the East Coast and at Progressive Field. Then Pap surrendered a run to Cleveland before shutting the door and earning his 5th save of the season.
What I love to do during times like this is check the the AL East Standings. I told a buddy of mine today that being in first doesn’t really mean much at this point, but there’s something else I wanna point out. There’s a little section that says how the Sox have done in the past ten games. And our record for the past ten games is 10-0. Just to have a little more fun, let’s look at a stat that isn’t even there: How about the last 11 games? 11-0.
It feels great to be from Boston.
Keep the Faith!
