As the Sox are about to begin game two against the Yanks, here are some thoughts on my mind:
-Red Sox Bullpen: I have so many mixed emotions on these guys. Let’s start off on a positive note by talking about what a great trade we made for Ramon Ramirez. This guy has pitched 15.1 innings and has only given up one run. I’m liking him as the new set up guy so far. Let’s hope he can keep dominating.
On the other hand, what’s going on with the rest of the bullpen? I have yet to see a strong outing from Saito, who’s gone 9 IP and given up 13 hits and 5 runs. And don’t even get me started with Lopez. I’ve never been a big fan of his from the start, and he’s shown nothing to get me on his side yet this season. I feel for the guy – I really do. He’s a quiet guy who’s making a miniscule salary compared to the rest of his team. But I think his time with the Sox has ended.
-Julio Lugo: This is another guy I feel for. He has struggled immensely since coming to the Sox in 2007, and yet for some reason I can’t help but feel bad for him. That being said, we need to stick with Nick Green. This guy I feel like came out of nowhere and has provided some steady offense as well as some excellent defense. I’m all for keeping Green in until Lowrie gets back. And I really hope that Green doesn’t mind being the new Alex Cora of the team – and by that I mean a strong utility man who doesn’t mind spending some of the season on the bench. I gotta admit, I miss having Cora around because he never once complained and just did what we wanted him to. I feel like Nick Green would be a great utility man to have, if he doesn’t mind it.
-Big Papi: A buddy of mine said to me the other day that Ortiz might never be the same that he used to be. I disagree. Papi has always been a little slow at the beginning of the season. Although it is possible that Ortiz won’t be the player he used to be, I still think he’s going to return to his regular “Papi” ways – and very soon.
Well it looks like a rainy game is about to start in the Bronx. Let’s keep our streak against the Yanks going!
Keep the Faith.
