Let’s look at yesterday’s game and figure out how it was obvious that the Red Sox weren’t going to get a W on the board:
You need to take advantage of opportunities given to you by the other team. For example, when Evan Longoria made an error in the fifth yesterday, we had the bases loaded and the Captain at the plate. And yet we couldn’t get anything going. That was our best opportunity to come back in the game after Tampa score 6 times in the top of the inning. Unfortunately Tek hit a grounder right to Longoria, who wasn’t about to make another costly error. It’s got to be the worst feeling in the world when the bases are loaded and you know you could have been out of the inning had you not made an error. Longoria is a smart baseball player and he would have thrown himself into the stands in order to make the third out in the fifth.
Now let’s look at some more obvious reasons that you know the Sox are gonna loose:
How about putting in Javier Lopez? I have lost my confidence in this guy. God love him, he’s making less money than probably anyone else on the team (Anyone have a program from a 2009 game? There should be his salary in there to verify this) and you never hear him complain. I’m sure he’s a nice guy, but I’d be lying if I said I want him to stay on the team. It’s at least a run every time he steps on the mound. Seeing Lopez come into a game tells me that it’s over.
If that wasn’t a giveaway that we were going to lose, then this was: All you fans who stayed through the whole thing yesterday – good for you. I have the utmost respect for fans who stay til the end. And why not? You spent enough money on seats and plenty more on food. Get your money’s worth and move down to the more expensive seats if other fans are leaving. Now that being said, you seemed to have given up yourselves when you started doing the wave in the 6th inning when the Rays had them loaded. On most occasions, the wave is done while the Sox are up. (This is clearly stated in all editions of “Fenway in Your Pocket” – why would it lie?)The fact that the wave was being done while the Sox were getting hammered told us that the game was done and that the fans just wanna have fun. You know what I have to say to that? Good for you guys. The Sox are losing and you’re still having fun. I commend you all.
I may have been a bit harsh in this blog. And well, being a Sox fan can be harsh at times. But despite everything that happened yesterday, I didn’t stop watching the game. And that’s because you never know what will happen with the Sox. Maybe Papi will come in and pitch or something. Although that will never happen, it’s no reason to turn off the TV. Yeah the game is over, but so what? Keep on watching and support the guys you love.
Keep the Faith.
Post-Blog-Notes:
-Juglio Lugo: I kind of gave Lugo some hard hits in some earlier blogs, and now I’m mixed. He’s been hitting fairly and even went 2-4 yesterday with a run and an RBI. And I loved the fact that he got a bunt-single yesterday (I’m all about the small ball). But his defense still has not been up to par. It’ll be interesting to see what happens when Lowrie returns, but we have a ways to go til that happens.
-Rocco Baldelli: Baldelli hit his first homer in a Sox uniform yesterday in the second inning. I was thrilled to see this happen because I’m a huge Baldelli fan. I met him a few years ago while he played for Tampa during his rookie season and he was a very nice guy . Best of luck, Baldelli, and nice grab in the first!
