I just read Lester’s comments as to why he didn’t throw to second in the 6th inning that could have potentially lead to a double play. Apparently Lester was expecting to see Lugo covering second, not Pedroia. When he saw Lugo at shortstop, that must have thrown him off. Although he could clearly see Pedroia there at second, the split-second decision he had to make forced him to throw the ball to first. Sure it seemed like an easy decision for us, because, it was. But for Lester in the heat of the moment, he got confused and threw to first.
Although Lester acknowledged his error after the game last night, I’m sure he realized his mistake right away. That couldn’t have made things much easier for him in the sixth, as he went on to give up an RBI single as well as the go ahead homer. And that was it for Lester.
I’m also sure Lester had trouble sleeping last night. Not only did he make a mistake on that play to first, but he also dropped his record to 2-4. We all know this isn’t the Lester that we know and love, just like we know that the 2009 Papi isn’t the real David Ortiz. It would seem that some of our beloved Red Sox are having some struggles, and all we can do it just cheer louder to help them out when we get to the ballpark. Keep that in mind for those of you who are fortunate to have tickets to future games (and if you have extras, I am awaiting your email).
Regardless of what happens this season with the Sox, you already know what you have to do: Keep the Faith! I put that at the end of every blog for a reason. Regardless of how the Sox do at the end of the day, we still love the Sox. Which is why we continue to Keep the Faith.
That being said, I know that those players who are slumping will break out of it. Ortiz will start hitting homers left and right. Lester will have a winning record by the end of the season. And I can’t wait to see these boys playing again in the month of October.
KEEP THE FAITH!
