Welcome back, Red Sox!

How many days have we been waiting for this, now?  Too many.  And yet we'll have to wait one more day.  I feel sorry for every Red Sox fan out there who had a ticket in hand, dying to get to Fenway Park today.  And if for some terrible reason you can't go tomorrow, I expect you to send me an email in capital letters letting me know you have a present for me...

Kidding, kidding.  Although I've never been to Opening Day, I know the god awful feeling of not attending Fenway Park after waiting for months to go.  I personally am bummed about tonight because I was hoping to DVR the game and watch it after getting out of work.  Since that didn't work out as planned, I'm going to get some text updates as the game goes along.

Don't get me wrong. It's only been one game.  But boy what a great season opener.

I was listening to WEEI 850am this afternoon, and Glenn Ordway from the Big Show was talking about how fans were getting too excited about just one game.  I agree that we shouldn't get pumped up after just one game, but I believe the excitment is because it was opening day and it was a great ball game.

Josh Beckett struck out Iwamura to start the game and just got better from there.  He went seven strong innings, giving up just 2 hits and a run, while walking 3 and striking out 10.  This might only be the first game, but for a cold day with 45 degree weather, it's not something to just look past.

As if going 1-2-3 in the first wasn't exciting enough to start the game, Dustin Pedroia really got the crowd roaring with a solo shot into the monster seats.  It was an excellent start to an excellent game.

First off, let me say that I have nothing against any of these guys (although Lopez makes me nervous).  I just thought up of the three people I yelled at most while watching NESN, and what do you know? I got myself a catchy title.

Now that I have your attention, it's time to vent (without the Coors Light, thank you). I'm expecting great things from Jon Lester this season.  I know last night was not the pitcher we are going to see a month from now - heck, even a start from now.  If you look at the Yankees right now you'd see that their starting pitching isn't anything to scream about either.  But we all know that it's not going to stay like this.  However, it doesn't make it any easier to put a smile on your face after a double play couldn't get Lester out of the 5th with a close game.

Wednesdays loss was a frustrating one.  Yesterday’s wasn’t as bad.

The Sox put up a good fight yesterday.  Yes, they could have taken advantage over some opportunities (Lowrie in the 8th with runners on second and third…ugh).  But it was different from  Wednesday night where they just couldn’t seem to get anything going.

Dice-K clearly wasn’t his MVP self that he was in the classic, as he gave up 9 hits, 4 runs, and 3 walks over 5.1 innings.  Frustrating, but the Sox bullpen really came through from there on out.  Delcarmen, Ramirez, Okajima, and Masterson combined for the final 3.2 innings, allowing only 1 hit and two walks – actually, take out Okajima from the equation and you have no hits and no walks from the remaining three pitchers.  This tells us two things:  1) That Oki isn’t himself yet…that’s okay.  He’ll get there.  And, 2) that we really don’t miss Coco.  Love the guy, best of luck to him, and I speak on behalf of all of Red Sox Nation when I say “Thank You” to him.  But considering what Ramirez has done so far (I know I know, it’s only been 3 games) and seeing Jacoby make that great catch in center to keep the score 4-2, we gotta like our end of the deal.

I tried writing this before yesterday's game but had some computer troubles. I'm going to do my best to combine both games. Let's start off by saying that I know I'm not the only fan who knows the Angels deserved a win Friday night.

Before the game started, there was an emotional pregame ceremony in honor of Nick Adenhart, who passed away early Thursday morning. Only 22 years of age, Adhenhart pitched in what would be his final game last Wednesday - 6 scoreless innings. Friday night, his number 34 could be seen on the pitchers mound. Needless to say it was a very emotional evening for Jered Weaver.

At the same time, could any of us Sox fans really tell that he was having an emotional evening? Not with the way he was pitching. Weaver made it through 6.2 innings, only allowing 1 run (4 H, 2 BB, 8 K).

Tim Wakefield – I owe you an apology.  I was very concerned when I heard you were returning to the Red Sox rotation.  You are the nicest guy in baseball, no doubts there.  But I doubted you during the off season.  Boy do you know how to prove others wrong.

Has anyone ever listened to the music that Wakefield pitches to as he takes the mound at Fenway before the first?  It’s a song by Tim McGraw called “How Bad Do You Want It?  I recently bought it off itunes and personally love the song.  Man does it get you motivated.  This is a perfect song for Wakefield.  Even though I have yet to be at Fenway to hear the song this season, it’s evident that Wakefield is hearing it loud and clear in cities like Oakland and Cleveland.
