Either way, it should be a good time.

During the past week, the Sox allowed Alex Gonzalez to stroll north of the boarder via free agency and then nabbed the man A-Gon will be replacing in Toronto, Marco Scutaro. As far as shortstop swaps go, this move has been widely praised as a coupe. Not only is Scutaro, seemingly, a superior offensive player but he also comes with a pristine reputation as a team-first, winning player. (On another note, I find it equally amusing and sickening that the Sox will pay more money to Julio Lugo to NOT play for them next season than they will pay Scutaro).

Renteria was replaced by Alex Gonzalez, and Sox fans were treated to the best defensive season ever turned in by a Red Sox shortstop (that Gonzo didn't win a Gold Glove should be under federal investigation ... paging Arlen Spector). Gonzalez came with an all-defense and no-offense reputation but managed to hit almost .260 for the year while making all the routine plays and nightly superhuman ones. It should also be noted that he cost only a couple million dollars.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but weren’t the Sox paying Alex Gonzalez a fraction of what Lugo is now swindling from John Henry's pockets? Wouldn’t Orlando Cabrera seem like a good fit about now? Nomar? (He played short the other day for the Dodgers.) What about John Valentin? Can we dig up his bones and cart him out there just to see what a shortstop with a set of hands looks like?
