Beckett

18 May 2010

And I was flipping there between commercials.

I missed Beckett's mysterious injury incident. Chances are he just didn't want to pitch to Martinez any more. Have a relaxing stint on the DL and give Wake a few more starts to appease him. Win win situation so far as I'm concerned. If only Papi could have a minor injury for Lowell to get some play time.

So, going forward with the other 3/4 of the season...

Beckett, you better have your head screwed on straight for this game against Sabathia tonight. You're supposed to be the Ace of this staff. You're the stopper in the rotation. Get angry and pitch.

So now I'm going to play a new game. Predictions:

Sox- Win against the Yanks because Beckett doesn't care about his 6.31 ERA any more than he cares about Hughes ERA being 1.44. Beckett

We could talk about Red Sox starting pitching having the second highest ERA in the American League. Beckett, you give up 4 runs before the 4th inning… Your team miraculously bails you out and provides a 3 run lead…and then in the 7th, you turn around and give up a 3 run homer to Hamilton. Now, Francona probably should have pulled you before you faced Hamilton with runners at the corners…but you’re supposed to be the Number 1 Ace of a staff that supposedly has 3 Aces. For the past two weeks, it's looked more like someone stacked the deck with Jokers.

Red Sox, didn't end nearly as well. Beckett started off strong. So strong in fact that he was perfect through the first 4.1 innings. Then he gave up his first hit. But not to worry, one hit does not a run make. However a solo shot does.

We will find out sometime tomorrow.

Now the Sox will go forward with a 5-man rotation of Beckett, Lester, Matsuzaka, Wakefield, and Byrd, and Colon is scheduled to return in September. Is this a good enough rotation to make the playoffs and win in the playoffs? With the top 3 of

mistakes that wound up costing the Sox the game.

As for yesterday's game, what the hell was that? Beckett goes 2.1 innings and gives up 8 ER? Not my definition of an ace. Hopefully it was just one of those days and not a sign of things to come for

e interesting to see if the Sox shift their rotation as a result of the rain-out or if they'll with Beckett for tomorrow night.

x's coffin with a solo shot in the 8th and give the Red Sox a much needed win.
Then last night Beckett, the other ace in the Red Sox bullpen, pitched another solid eight innings. But while he was giving up a hit here and there, the White Sox's Danks was hitless through 6 1/3. And although the Chicago team only had one run, things looked bleak. But the Red Sox never give up, and after one out in the 7th an amazing thing happened: Danks ran out of steam.

The sox can tie Tampa for the lead in the AL East tonight as Beckett takes the mound, going for his 6th win. Ortiz is on the 15 DL with a torn ECU tendon-- known as the extensor carpi ulnaris to us science geeks. Theo & Francona are in agreement that surgery wont be necessary; we'll wait and see if the Vader-like cast will do the trick. JD Drew was the offensive star of last night's win, going 2 for 3 along with Coco Crisp's off the wall tie breaking double.  Dice-K's replacement Justin Masterson allowed four runs on six hits in six innings-- he's 2-0 with a The Rays are 0-4 at Fenway Park this season; 65-88 since their inaugural season 10 years ago. They'll return for a final 3 game series in September following tomorrow nights game.
