Brandon Moss

4 August 2008

t was a move that had to be made, and that’s precisely why the Sox tossed in Craig Hansen and Brandon Moss. Consider their losses collateral damage. But the Red Sox were not walking away from the negotiating table without dumping Ramirez one way or another.

ut the trade was with three teams.  Manny may now be wearing Dodger blue, but Craig Hansen and Brandon Moss will both be wearing Pittsburgh yellow.  See Pittsburgh's currently in last

en it was 7-5 Boston would be a good place to start watching the game, and the first thing I see is Brandon Moss dropping a ball in right field, loading the bases, with 1 out for the Twins. Then Manny gets a good jump on a potential bloop single into left and there are two out. Sox pitcher, Hansen, snagged a ball bounced right at him and the top of the inning was over.

cky movie.

One can only assume the throw came from Julio Lugo.

At the very least, we got to see Brandon Moss make his debut at first base. And what a debut it was - he kicked a grounder around long enough for me to make a sandwich and a run to score from third, a critical tally in such a tight game. But, alas, we must forgive young Brandon. He's still learning. And, to be honest, I like the kid. He was always the afterthought in the "Outfield of the Future" discussions about Ellsbury, David Murphy and himself. He's got a long way to go to catch up to the two of them - Ellsbury has already earned Freddy Lynn status among many Sox fans, and Murphy is more than holding his own in Texas - but Moss has a solid stroke. And he's just likeable. If only we could give JD Drew some of whatever personality Moss has, we'd have one heck of a rightfielder.

alignments he chooses to go with, and there is always the possibility of bringing up Jed Lowrie or Brandon Moss from Pawtucket. These are all just temporary stop gaps and the Red Sox would likely have to look outside the organization if they want to pick up a big bat. Names that have often been mentioned to be available include Ken Griffey, Jr. or Adam Dunn in Cincinnati and there is talk the Rockies could potentially look to move Matt Holliday. Certainly others could become available as teams fall out of contention. And of course there is one Barry Bonds who sits waiting for a phone call from an interested party. Bonds, however, comes with his own set of problems and would seem to be the complete antithesis of David Ortiz, which brings me to my final point.

The As Blanton is looking human, finally. Brandon Moss follows with a double that scores Manny. With the runs, Dice K now has the chance to be the winning pitcher. Former Sox pitcher Alan Embree comes in to presumably 'save the day,' facing, first, his old battery mate, Varitek, whom he strikes out.

one out double down the third base line to score both runners.  After Lowell struck out, Brandon Moss singled between first and second to give the Sox a 3-2 lead. Dice K was fired up in the dugout, he somehow had a chance at a W.
