Offensively and defensively, the Yankees have been missing the services of Hideki Matsui since June 27, and Jorge Posada on and off for even longer. Matsui is an integral RBI guy to give ARod and Giambi protection in the five or six hole, and is needed more than ever in left with Johnny Damon's shoulder issues. Posada can hit pretty well, but can't throw, so even when he was in the game, other teams ran rampant--Jose Molina and Chad Moeller are decent defensive replacements, but can't match Jorge's bat.

d and Posada already this season, just as they are currently without the services of clutch-hitting Hideki Matsui. And it’s hard to deny that Damon’s state of mind, determined to back up his strong words in private and public with passionate play, led to the injury. He rarely plays lackadaisically anyway, but he’s not like Ryan Freel, who throws himself around the diamond like he’s paid on a per-contusion basis.

the opening inning, following the bases-loaded situation by giving up a two RBI double to Hideki Matsui (who seems to have tamed his right shoulder 'twitch' at the plate this year; not completely, but a little) and a subsequent two-run single to Robinson Cano. It was 4-0, Yankees, when Francona pulled Colon out of there with two out in the first. He'd thrown 42 pitches in the first inning, compared to Andy Pettite's 14.
