Oooo, Joe Blanton went to the Phils! Mark Teixeira might just go about anywhere west of the Mississippi! Stars above, Tony Clark went back to the D-Backs! Really, its tough for me to get all worked up about baseball this time of year-- and no, it has nothing to do with me being a jobless bum at the moment (well, it might actually have something to do with that).

Oakland A’s- Bobby Crosby and Eric Chavez are perennial duds. Joe Blanton, though, I didn’t see coming. Blanton (5-12, 4.94 ERA) was supposed to anchor the staff. Instead this role has fallen to…Justin Duchscherer (10-5, 1.78)??

Since not much is expected the team this season, Joe Blanton will surely be traded before the deadline, and if Harden and Crosby can stay healthy and produce this season, they would also make very tempting trade bait (especially Harden for a contender in need of pitching) and could potentially bring a decent haul of prospects. Given their track records, that remains a pretty big if.

Moving away from the National League we will turn our attention to the much better American League. We will start out west which a division that should be a great two horse race. The Rangers are still struggling; the A’s are now re-building which leaves us with the Mariners and the Angels. Let’s get to it.
