Ortiz

27 May 2010

Beltre, on behalf of Red Sox Nation, I can happily say, "Yes!"

Ortiz's homerun was great simply because the Remdawg called it. "They don't want to pitch him up and in..." next pitch, up and in, and then up and out of the park. Forget drinking the kool-aid. I'm all about the new peach-mango salsa.

Be grateful for having any place at all.

Outside of the game, I heard the Ortiz interview on the Planet Mikey addition of the Big Show on WEEI today. Ortiz, if you had given that interview during your slump, three things would have happened. 1. The fans would have understood that you certainly still have a true passion for playing the game. 2. You would have fired yourself up and restored your own confidence. You would have started swinging with authority rather than half-heartedly waiving at balls outside the strike zone when down in the count. And 3. You might have revealed the secret ingredient to your mango-salsa. Peaches. You now have a Peach-mango salsa. If you find yourself in a slump again, may I recommend strawberries? Strawberry-Mango just might be even better than Strawberry-kiwi. Point is, I knew you just needed more mango salsa.

I heard a joke on WEEI today in which a caller asked "So, is Nomar Night tonight, and Ortiz Night tomorrow night? Or is Ortiz Night tonight?"  I laughed. Then I realized that

Beltre, congratulations on your first Red Sox home run. People are all over Ortiz because he's not hitting home runs, and Beltre waits until the month of May to hit his, and no one thinks twice about it. Go figure. Then again,

Everyone wants to feel bad for Ortiz. They wonder why Francona waited until his formerly known as "clutch" hitter was almost to the batter's box before pinch hitting Lowell for him in Wednesday night's Toronto game. How Francona didn't tell

ox game, though I was lucky enough to tune in for the key moments, such as Lowell pinch hitting for Ortiz, and then drawing the walk with the bases loaded for the go-ahead run. Then I was back for Ramon Ramirez remembering how to pitch. Really, this was the best he's looked all season, and on a night when Papelbon, Okijima, and Bard were all unavailable, his performance was nearly as impressive as Buckholz himself going 8 and giving up just 1 run.

ght carry greater significance over the course of the season, like Lowell finally pinch-hitting for Ortiz. Fact is, though Papi was a “good team-mate” for hanging around long enough to give Lowell daps as he came back to the dug-out…

'm currently listening to Terry Francona on the Dale & Holley show fence with those hosts about Ortiz's productivity. Folks really don't learn, I guess. I would rather talk about how the Sox now have an official losing streak when playing the opening of an opponents ball park. Honestly, it's just absurd. Sooner or later,

Lowrie's sac fly to deep right in the bottom of the sixth started them off. Then Ortiz's take down of Marco Scutaro in the 7th allowed Ellsbury to score run number four on Youkilis' fielder's choice. The Sox just needed one more to tie it up.

the Fenway Faithful were thrilled by his show of strength, no one was happier with the outcome than Ortiz himself. All that time on the DL and the slow recovery at Pawtucket paid off. Our Big Papi is back!

an tie Tampa for the lead in the AL East tonight as Beckett takes the mound, going for his 6th win. Ortiz is on the 15 DL with a torn ECU tendon-- known as the extensor carpi ulnaris to us science geeks. Theo & Francona are in agreement that surgery wont be necessary; we'll wait and see if the Vader-like cast will do the trick. JD Drew was the offensive star of last night's win, going 2 for 3 along with Coco Crisp's off the wall tie breaking double.  Dice-K's replacement Justin Masterson allowed four runs on six hits in six innings-- he's 2-0 with a The Rays are 0-4 at Fenway Park this season; 65-88 since their inaugural season 10 years ago. They'll return for a final 3 game series in September following tomorrow nights game.

al series in McAfee Coliseum.  Duchscherer's no-hit bid late last night was spoiled by an Ortiz single hit to right field, what proved to be the only Sox hit of the night.

Manny watchers had to wait another day for HR #499; given the night off due to as his .189 batting average in his last 23 at-bats, we'll wait and see if this small break breathes new life into bat.

Drew comes up lame, Ortiz goes 0-4 with 5 left on base, and Papelbon gives up 1 run on three hits in the 10th inning.  Call it fortunate or just call it the Manny and Moss show.  Down 2-0 in the sixth, with Pedroia at second after doubling to right, and Youk on first from a walk, Manny lined a one out double down the third base line to score both runners.  After Lowell struck out, Brandon Moss singled between first and second to give the Sox a 3-2 lead. Dice K was fired up in the dugout, he somehow had a chance at a W.
