Paul Byrd

20 September 2008

The pitcher the Red Sox put their hope it to do that for them was Paul Byrd, a midseason acquisition from Cleveland, who has provided the stability in the rotation that they haven't really had since Curt Schilling went down. Byrd faced AJ Burnett of the Blue Jays.

>The Red Sox will look to make up that ground against the Jays, who they recently took 3 of 4 from. Paul Byrd, Jon Lester, and Daisuke Matsuzaka will go in that order for the Sox. After that it

Red Sox starter Paul Byrd, who has pitched well since coming over from Cleveland, was roughed up by the Jays offense, lead by Jays rookie phenom Travis Synder, who had 5 RBIs. The Red Sox offense was stopped by AJ Burnett, who has very quietly won 18 games and leads the AL in strikeouts. He has showed, especially in the second half of the season, what he can do when healthy. The final score was 8-1, as

They are all but out of it.

So the Sox sent recent acquisition Paul Byrd to the mound tonight to face off with young Rangers' starter Brandon McCarthy. Byrd has proved to be a very good pickup as he has stabilized the end of their rotation and provided a locker room presence, exactly what the Red Sox acquired him to do. Early 2nd inning RBIs from Alex Cora and Coco Crisp gave the Sox an early 2-0 lead. A David Ortiz two run shot, his 18th, in the 5th pushed it to a 4-0 advantage. 6th inning RBIs from Jacoby Ellsbury and Dustin Pedroia, as well as a 7th inning solo shot from Jason Bay, his 27th, made it a 7-0 lead.

ts out, but we were in desperate need of a decent pitcher to fill the 5 spot in the rotation.  Paul Byrd has done just that.  As mentioned before, he also is hard on himself.  One might say that he’s being too rough, but I think he’s being a big leaguer.  Good for you Byrd.  We know you’re out there giving it all you got.  RSN supports you.

t pitcher, that the starting staff would receive critical contributions from Bartolo Colon and Paul Byrd (potentially two of the ugliest pitchers ever to don a Sox uniform, as an aside), that Jed Lowrie would have more RBI than Julio Lugo, that Manny would take his Manny show to the left coast, that Jason Varitek would be struggling to hit .220, that Kevin Youkilis would be the team's most feared power hitter, and that David Ortiz would miss the bulk of the first half with an injury - I'd probably have predicted that the Sox would finish fourth in the American League East.

Great great news! I'm really pulling for Paul Byrd tonight. Hopefully the Red Sox can figure out Marcum this game since they didn't last week.

Sidenote. I went to Shea Stadium Monday night. A

Last night was one of those games that you wished you weren’t watching.  When it’s all said and done, you wish that last night was one of those nights where you just wished you were out to dinner, or hanging out with some buddies. Unfortunately, last night was not one of those nights (for me at least) and I watched the Sox get absolutely dominated by Roy Halladay.

Brett Favre's devolution from iconic sports hero to prima-donna idiot.

Paul Byrd's impact on the Sox rotation.

Olympic Gymnasts. How the deuce do they go flipping around like that?

In what has been a summer full of rain in the Boston area, another game has been postponed. Paul Byrd's Red Sox debut will have to wait as tonight's scheduled game has been postponed until September 13th where there will be a day-night double-header. 1st game at 12:35pm and 2nd game at 7:05pm.

ay from the World Series last season to AL Central bottom-feeders this season, such was the life of Paul Byrd as a member of the Cleveland Indians. The man with the throw-back windup and HGH allegations to his name makes his Red Sox debut tonight at Fenway Park against the Toronto Blue Jays, matched up against Roy "Doc" Halladay.

sonally congratulate you.

Raise your hand if you've got some mixed emotions about Paul Byrd starting tonight. I'd be raising both if I wasn't typing. Yes, he has a 1.24 ERA with a 4-0 record since the All Star break. Fantastic. He's still an aged pitcher who hasn't experienced the Boston atmosphere, and not to mention, can still suck. Plus, I know that Sox fans have been on their last straw with Buchholz during at least his last one to three starts, but he is replacing a guy in the rotation that most fans still love greatly because of his momentum changing no hitter last year. I'd love for Byrd to come out and throw 7 shut out innings, but I cannot say that my faith is entirely in him. Quick thought: what happens to

a game (hyperbole please), but the Sox need to support the guy!

Anyone else kind of nervous about Paul Byrd? I mean, the guy does have a 2.00 ERA over the past 4 starts, but he's an admitted steroid user and porn addict. Classy individual all around. I'm assuming his starts cannot hurt the team anymore than a Clay Buchholz start would, but my gut is telling me to be wary.

hat I am trying to get through my mind this Wednesday morning, out of all the pitchers to sign, why Paul Byrd? He is 7-10 with a 4.23 ERA but the excuses I am hearing is that he has been dominant since the all-star break.  That does not bode well enough with this Red Sox fan.
