Pedroia

For Shame Tampa Bay! For Shame for St. Pete!

Then again, if you saw Pedroia's fly ball out turn into a base hit because the stadium architects didn't foresee having massive speakers, random catwalks, and other ridiculous obstructions hanging from their dome, maybe the fans have the right idea. A great team with no fan base will lead to a new ball park sooner or later.

le the pitcher is still holding the ball, but he's hitting well to be on base so he's contributing. Pedroia is swinging like he's mad he's not on the cover of The Show this year. Youk "keeps his hands inside the ball" according to ESPN's Joe Morgan. Really he just keeps a loose grip on the bat, which is something Ken Griffey Jr. has been preaching for more than a decade. Can we talk about Hermida? I liked that guy's game when he was a Marlin. Now that he's on the Sox bench, J.D. Drew can have a sore back as often as he likes, so far as I'm concerned. When this team hits its stride, there are going to be a lot of fun October nights in its future.

lost this evening, our fearless Sox hitters in the line up did not do so well.  Pedroia was 0 for 5 and now carries an average of .125 in the WBC.  Youk went 0 for 4 with a walk and a strike out and left 2 men in scoring position.  Oh well.

And thanks to some smart base running by Ellsbury and Pedroia in the first, the Sox only had to get four more runs to take the lead.

In the classic John Sayles movie "Eight Men Out" Joseph Sullivan asks a peer "You know how much you feed a horse to get a day's work out of him? Just enough so he knows he's hungry." And after the morning's loss and just three games between them and the division leading Rays, our Sox were very hungry. It was that hunger that got them the four runs they needed to win the game. Lowrie's sac fly to deep right in the bottom of the sixth started them off. Then Ortiz's take down of Marco Scutaro in the 7th allowed Ellsbury to score run number four on Youkilis' fielder's choice. The Sox just needed one more to tie it up.

er impressive night for the Sox offense led by, in my opinion a strong candidate for AL MVP, Dustin Pedroia who turned in another 4-4 night making back-to-back 4 hit games so far against Chicago. Mark Kotsay, who in just his third game with Boston added a 3-4 night, knocking in 3. White Sox starter Mark Buehrle was removed after just 4 2/3 allowing 11 hits and 7 ER.

sbury's three hits which gave him his first multi-hit game since July 9th? What about the fact that Pedroia can't seem to get through a game these days without getting a hit? Or the fact that in the middle of the press maelstrom that is Manny Ramirez, he still managed to get two doubles and two RBI's?

r />Although Liz got the first batter he faced to strike out, the next 10 men would not go quietly. Pedroia started a new hitting streak by lining to left. JD Drew walked, and Manny was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Liz then walked in a run by by giving Lowell a free pass. Then Youkilis stepped up, and on a 3-1 pitch, he launched the ball over the monster seats for the first grand slam of his career. Now the Sox are up 7-1. Another six men would come to the plate before the inning was over and by the time the dust had cleared two more runs had scored and the Sox were up 9-1. They'd add three more to their total making the final score 12-1. Since the Rays lost yesterday the Sox were now only a half game away from leading the East.

the game, but it was a spark.  And that spark caught fire last night. After Lugo, Ellsbury and Pedroia all singled to right in the bottom of the 8th, Lowell stepped into the batter's box and slammed Qualls' pitch into the green monster for a double that would get Ellsbury and
