Red Sox Nation

26 January 2009

They were the “Red Sox Nation”, and this time it would be different. Boston tied the game, and in the 12th inning David Ortiz hit a 2-run homerun to give the Red Sox the win, and hopes of a World Series, though bleak, were still a possibility. Boston would win the next three games in dramatic fashion, and became the first team in Major League Baseball history to win a best of seven series after losing the first three. The Red Sox would go on to face the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series. They were no match for Boston or the “

f we can win without our star players, we’ll be unstoppable when we get them back.

Red Sox Nation, I urge you all to show the love and support for your team that you’ve shown all season.  If it’s a blowout like it was yesterday, don’t change the channel.  If you don’t want to watch a game because of the starting pitcher, walking away isn’t going to make things any better.  Although our boys can’t see us behind the TV screen, our support still helps bond us as a part of

put on this winter in the Johan Santana Sweepstakes and his recent comments about the existence of Red Sox Nation, I don’t believe there is a bigger blowhard in sports today. All we need is for him to revive the Billy Martin routine with Joe Girardi, a possibility that may not be that farfetched as it appears Girardi not necessarily that easy to get along with. Little Stein seems to be unpredictable and impatient and not only expects the team to win now, but to do so in spectacular fashion. Earlier this year, Hank implied that general manager Brian Cashman would be on the hot seat if the plan to hold on to their young pitching instead of going all in for Santana didn’t pan out. If Steinbrenner allows his arrogance and impetuousness to take over the organization, I envision a return of the Yankees to the "glory" years of the 1980's when George was the show.

'fan' and what that means, I believe myself to be among a 'silent majority' of Red Sox Nation citizens. That means that while I'm aware that Jim Rice just fell short of the necessary votes to get him into the Hall of Fame, I haven't a clue as to his lifetime batting average, nor his home run and RBI totals. I don't know and frankly don't care how much money Manny makes. I couldn't tell you where the Red Sox ranked in terms of runs scored in 2007, nor could I rattle off the team ERA. I will endeavor, as this exercise proceeds, to seek that sort of information when it becomes relevant to something I want to write about.
