Red Sox

That is, assuming the SI cover curse doesn't smite him. Damn you SI!!!

Red Sox! The Red Sox took two out of three from the Phillies (made Doc look like he was a Blue Jay again) and then Buckholz dominated the Rays last night at the Trop. It's a damn shame that the Rays are in 1st place in the most competitive division in the major leagues, and there are still more Sox fans at the field than Rays. For Shame Tampa Bay! For Shame for St. Pete!

Ok, so it was only a two game series. At this point in the season, the Sox's will take whatever sweeps they can.

Lester was efficient. He threw just over 100 pitches by the 9th inning, and there was no sign that even that effort had taxed him. His fastball still registered at 96  in the 9th. Allowing just one earned run, Lester took it upon himself to ensure that the bullpen will now be very well rested for its trip to the National League.

I'll say it again. Since Easter and the very first game of the Sox season...when the Celtics win, the Sox win.

Now the Celtics game went down to the last seconds, so it was only fitting that Papelbon would then wait until 2 outs, a 3-2 count, and runners on Second and Third to finally get his first strike out of the 9th inning.

I swear to the baseball gods that if the Orioles pass the Sox at any point this season, I will write hate mail to every Sox pitcher with an ERA above 5.00, and every batter with an average below .250

Sure we had Manny on that team, and Pedro, but it was still Nomar's team. He was a born and bred Red Sox player, and probably the best short-stop of my life time. The point is, he was essentially the face of the Franchise. But, after his mysterious wrist injury (Nomar still insists that he never took steroids, and that the reason many players tested positive in 04 is because they were told that the results of that testing would be confidential. Because it was confidential, many players "lied" and "admitted to using performance enhancing dugs" just to promote standardized testing throughout the Major leagues. Yeah, Right.) After the wrist injury, Nomar just wasn't himself any more, and he buckled under increasing media scrutiny. Theo traded Nomar half way through the 04 season, and it was that jolt to the team that propelled the Sox to their first World Series title in 86 years.

Most folks were nervous in the 8th inning with two on and no bullpen to go to. Not me, and my faith was not in thanks to Buckholz. See, the Celtics had just closed out their series with the Heat (a game later than they should have, I know...) but as I said in my last post...ever since the very first night of the 2010 season, when the C's win, the Sox win.

I'm currently listening to Terry Francona on the Dale & Holley show fence with those hosts about Ortiz's productivity. Folks really don't learn, I guess. I would rather talk about how the Sox now have an official losing streak when playing the opening of an opponents ball park. Honestly, it's just absurd. Sooner or later, Ortiz is going to remember how to be Grimace, the hulking force that crushed balls into right center, or pulled them deep into the right field seats. That's if he can still do those things. If he can't, well, there are a little less than three weeks left in April. If Ortiz is still going to strike out looking at balls he should be protecting the plate on regardless of whether it was just enough off the plate to be a ball, then he probably will start platooning with Lowell. I don't think he'll be outright benched, but even Francona's loyalty will last so long. Papi, I have the solution to all your problems. Swing the bat. Don't check swing the bat. Swing the bat like you want to hit the ball, not like you're at the plate just struggling to stay alive.

On Tuesday it was announced that all star third basemen, Mike Lowell would be placed on the Disabled List. With this being they have sent Jeff Bailey to Baltimore to finish out the rest of the series at 3rd. Mike Lowell is batting .282 with 75 hits this year and always makes great plays at the hot corner. The third baseman was treated for his right hip strain and a large amount of CeeCee's of fluid were taking out of his aling hip.

Well on Saturday night I was in St. Petersburg, Florida to watch the Boston Red Sox take on their kryptonian-nemesis in recent times, the Tampa Bay Rays. I was fortunate enough to have nabbed 2 front row seats along the third baseline off of StubHub.com and it was worth every penny for the up-close and personal experience. I feel compelled to mention StubHub, despite the fact that Robert Kraft despises them, because my girlfriend and I ran into two other

The National League West is not a division too many people are getting overly excited about entering the 2009 season. The return of Manny Ramirez to Los Angeles has made the Dodgers the division’s lone true contender for the World Series. Arizona will go as far as its pitching takes it, which could be far, but other than that, there’s not a whole lot to pontificate upon. Yet, somehow, I still managed to write 1,383 words.

After a 11-6 loss to the O's, manager Terry Francona announced that Buchholz was demoted to Double A Portland.

So my name is Becky and I'm a huge Red Sox Fan.  And no...I'm not a pink hat.  Anyway, this is my first blog of any kind so bear with me.  Now let's get to the sox!!  So last night they had a great win against the Baltimore Orioles.....in Baltimore I might add.  They seem to be doing better on the road. (I should know I was at the Blue Jays game on the 16th...and they stunk up the place.....fortunately not as bad as they did the next day)  So last night we had a solo home run from our captain Mr. Jason Varitek!  Finally!!  I'm so happy for him.  We all know our captain has been obviously struggeling at the plate.  Now we might know the reason...divorce?  Poor Jason...yet he will prevail!  Anyway, hopefully they pull out another win tonight, even without one of my faves...Mikey Lowell and new hardhitter...JD Drew.  Heal up fast guys!  We need you!!

Wow.

This sure is something that us Red Sox fans aren't used to.  We've lost four out of our last five games.  Our pitching, for the most part, has been less than okay.  And God knows we need something to help our bullpen.  Even last night when we thought Masterson had finally stopped the Angels from doing more damage, Torii Hunter hits a lead off home run in the 9th inning.  At that point there weren't many fans left, but I'm sure that didn't stop some of the remaining fans from heading towards the exit gates.

ut he seems to be a bit more personable than he was last fall, when he avoided a painful death from Red Sox fans by rocking the grand slam against Cleveland. But JD's been the man this year - with Papi out of the lineup, we'd be screwed with a capital S if it weren't for him. So I'm letting him slide on last year a little, and looking forward to a few more outbursts in the dugout that prove he's still alive.

Rain can’t ruin that. Another priceless moment at Fenway.

So as we honor the Celtics, the Red Sox wore their green uniforms which were last worn on April 20th 2007 to honor Red Auerbach. We won the Yankees 7-6 that night. Hopefully the shirts will bring that “Luck of the Irish” to our boys tonight. And the shamrock in center field was a very nice touch.

t fight your way onto the stage.

Then there's the 37 year-old Doug Mirabelli, The Boston Red Sox back up catcher.  The Sanfrancisco Giants selected him out of Witchital State in 1992.  He was touted as a good catcher with some pop in his bat.  Up until the last 3 years or so, I'd say he sort of fit that description.  He did a good job behind the plate with or without Wakerfield, and he took one out of the yard every now and then.  I'll painfully admit that we do still need him to catch Wake, especially after seeing what happened a couple of years ago when Mirabelli went to the San Diego Padres.

The 2008 Red Sox season may very well hinge on the ability of Dice-K to live up to his potential. With Big Schilly on the sidelines for a majority of the season the pitching staff is now focused entirely on Beckett and Dice-K. I thought that last year was a good year for the Dice man, very similar to the year Beckett had two years ago. However, the thing that scares me more than anything about Dice-K is his seeming lack of a go-to pitch. Every great pitcher has that one pitch, or in some cases two or three pitches, that they go to when it comes time for the crunch. When Pedro used to get two strikes on a lefty everyone watching the game knew he was going to throw his changeup down and away and it still worked most of the time. If Big Schilly needed a big pitch it usually came down to his splitter. I still believe that Papelbon could tell the batters that his fastball is coming and it wouldn't matter. Not a single pitch in Dice-K's repertoire left me with this impression last year. The fastball is a little above average but sometimes he seems to lose control of it. The slider, which seemed to me to be his best pitch when he could locate it, didn't get used enough. And of course the fabled gyro-ball that we heard so much about but never really saw. From everything I've read about his time in Japan Dice-K definitely has this 'out' pitch somewhere in his repertoire and the
