Sean Casey

Keep the Faith.

Post game notes:

-Sean Casey:  Is he ever going to play?  I would have rather seen him pinch hit for Kotsay.  Hitting over .300 in 200 at

Youkilis will move over to 3rd for the time being and either Sean Casey or rookie Chris Carter will start at 1st.

JD Drew still remains out, a big bat in the middle of the Red Sox lineup tha

Did anyone else get déjà vu today?  Well I sure did after seeing run after run after run – this time against our beloved Sox.  Toronto scored in every inning except for the 2nd and 9th innings.  The 9th was a 1-2-3 inning pitched by closer Jonathan Papelbon, who really was one of the only ones left in the bullpen at that point.  It was the first 1-2-3 inning for the Sox.

eturn to anywhere from the beginning to the middle of September.

Good news! We get to see more of Sean Casey!

I don't know about you, but I love this man. He's currently batting .353 on the season. He's naturally a good hitter. He's going to give us above average defense at first. While I do think we are set back by Youk having to move to third and Casey playing first while losing Lowell, I don't think it's too severe. Plus, let's talk about just how funny he looks when he trots down the first baseline after he walks. I laugh every time! Watch for it tonight. It's great.

ing hit on the wrist by a pitch.  It wasn’t a pretty sight, but you gotta give credit to Sean Casey for being such a good sport about being a utility man.  If he played for any other ball club, this guy might be a starter.  But he opted to be a utility man for the Sox, saying that he cared about playing for a good team.  With him on the bench, I really don’t get as worried as I should when Mike Lowell’s hip is hurt, or Kevin Youkilis gets hit by a pitch.  Give them a few days off and give Casey some playing time.  (Granted right now they’re both hurt, so that’s not a good thing.  But if worst comes to worst, which I don’t think it will, Lowrie can move to third and Casey can play first.  We can worry about that if the situation calls for it, but not now.)

his debut at first.  Why wasn't it Casey?  Well, turns out yesterday was the first day of Sean Casey's three-day suspension thanks to that brawl with Tampa Bay back on June 5th.

In the meantime, we’ll probably see increased playing time for Coco Crisp and Sean Casey depending on who Terry Francona decides to DH and what defensive alignments he chooses to go with, and there is always the possibility of bringing up Jed Lowrie or Brandon Moss from Pawtucket. These are all just temporary stop gaps and the Red Sox would likely have to look outside the organization if they want to pick up a big bat. Names that have often been mentioned to be available include Ken Griffey, Jr. or Adam Dunn in Cincinnati and there is talk the Rockies could potentially look to move Matt Holliday. Certainly others could become available as teams fall out of contention. And of course there is one Barry Bonds who sits waiting for a phone call from an interested party. Bonds, however, comes with his own set of problems and would seem to be the complete antithesis of David Ortiz, which brings me to my final point.

ded when they whooped for joy last October in Colorado.

We’ve already talked about Sean Casey at some length; the only real newcomer on the squad. We’ve been through the Schilling drama, so we can tuck that away until the All-Star break at least. With him out, there’s a little controversy (if you can even call it that) over that fifth starting role, where Julian Tavares enters into the picture a little more prominently than he might have otherwise.

Sean Casey, who helped the Tigers win their title in '06, is now a member of the Boston Red Sox, so I went fishing for a performance 'snapshot' of him to see what we were getting for our $800,000.
