Even Varitek got into the act, belting his 9th homer of the season.

The bullpen once again continued it's Jekyll and Hyde season as Delcarmen was cruising get the first 2 outs of the 8th and then walked two batters bringing the tying run up to the plate. Papelbon had to come in and almost instantly gave up a double to Huff, making the score 4-3. Fortunately, the Sox scored two more runs in the Top of the 9th and Paps locked it down in the 9th for the W.

Then Youkilis walks. But just like the 10th, the Sox can't get Lowell home. Varitek grounds back to the pitcher, who throws to 3rd for the force out and both Cora and Ellsbury strike out.

Hansen faced just three Cardinals in the 12th and got them all out without breaking a sweat. Then for the third time in a row, the Sox lead-off batter got a double. But for the third time in a row the Sox couldn't get him home. So, it's onto the 13th, the inning to remember.

-K now owns an AL leading 8-0 record,  walking 6 to lead the majors in BBs.  Perhaps Varitek's day off affected his high pitch count (118 in 5 2/3 innings, 67 strikes), since he's not used to Cash.

y as the one Ozzy Osbourne bit in half.  The Sox were down three in the ninth, with Lowell and Varitek on and two outs.  And for some unexplainable reason, Francona let Lugo try to make his already bad day worse.  And he did.  He flew out to center to end the game.  We needed a home run and everyone and their breathing brother knew Lugo had no chance.  It was as likely to happen as Pesky staying up past 9pm.
